From Winter to Spring: A Style Guide

A season change calls for a style change. Not only can you start spring cleaning your wardrobe, but it provides you with a chance to change up what you might purchase next. We’ve been wrapped up in St Andrews since before I can remember, it feels like the chilly days and bitterly cold nights are never ending. As we come into the Spring and Summer months - albeit not all that warmer - it’s time to reflect out some ‘warmth’ from what we’re wearing.

Firstly, there’s no need to cut out everything you’ve been wearing for the past couple of months, layers still have their place here. My personal favourite winter to spring layering transition piece is a button down cardigan, with either a long sleeve or tank top underneath. Crucially, only buttoning up the top button will make this extra pinterest. Whilst skinny scarves provide very little warmth, luckily they can be worn throughout the Spring months, adding a little something extra to even the plainest outfits. My current favourite small brands of skinny scarf: Moorelly and You Look Hot can add something extra to even the plainest of outfits, making these an attractive accessory choice.

Considering sustainability and budget, there are many dupes available for current popular spring brands such as Damson Madder, Ganni and Djerf Avenue. Better still, over looking for a high street - likely fast fashion -  replacement, picking up a second hand piece can not only be more unique, but also significantly better for the planet. For thrifting some timeless Spring pieces, the options are endless as you look for some timeless wardrobe options. My personal favourite items to purchase second hand are long coats and jeans, things which seem to get better with time and wear. More neutral colours here will ensure more wear and outfit versatility.

A classic is swapping the long wool winter coat for a lightweight swishy trench, ensuring maybe a neutral tone to give you maximum wear. For going out, the viral ganni ‘balloon’ blouse is giving the ultimate spring vibes, alongside any top or blouse with a wide, tudor (esque) collar. Pinks, reds and blush tones can now be incorporated, these can easily transition day to night and will make you feel like the sun is out.

The Winter to Spring transition is simple, just ensure to reuse and think carefully about your new purchases. Thrift where you can and bring pops of colour, this is the ultimate way to build your ideal Spring wardrobe.
