Inside CC: 21 Questions With The Blog Team

There’s something chic yet personal about the questions you ask a person when you wish to strip away the formalities. Perhaps the truest markers of personal style aren’t found in wardrobes at all, but in the quiet details: a coffee order, a go-to colour palette, the chosen soundtrack for a walk down Market Street. These small rituals form a kind of signature, a prêt-à-porter identity carried into everyday life.

In true Vogue spirit, we’re turning the lens on ourselves. Twenty-one questions to introduce the faces behind the features — CC’s own take on the classic 73 Questions, only without Hollywood A-listers or AW cameos. Just the blog team who shapes Concrete Catwalk from the inside out.

In St Andrews, style has its own ecosystem, and sometimes the most interesting wardrobes are not in Paris or Milan, but in the students rushing to a 9 a.m. tutorial with a coffee and a lip gloss in hand. Consider this our unofficial backstage pass.

2. How would you define your style in three words?

Pink, classic (verging on preppy), feminine.

3. Your recent least favourite “trend”?

Microtrends. Style should be instinctive and deeply personal, not a replication of the internet’s latest obsession.

4. Your favourite book?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

5. A colour you always return to?

Pink! I own an almost alarming number of pink pieces, and my favourite pairing is pink and navy.

6. A designer you think is underrated?

So many come to mind: Maje for ready-to-wear, and honestly I am obsessed with everything from Chloé under Chemena Kamali. I’m also obsessed with Oscar de la Renta and Marni, and I adore Gucci’s recent revival: the horsebit, the coats, all of it.

7. Your favourite outfit in your rotation?

A navy pleated skirt, heeled boots, a pink top, a twilly, and a matching coat. Lately, I’ve been finishing it all off with statement earrings.

8. You are given a basic white jumper. How do you style it?

Layered over a pink lace broderie shirt, paired with a navy pleated skirt, statement earrings, navy tights, and a standout pair of shoes. I’d top it with a classic wool coat and a fur collar if the Scottish wind is feeling particularly dramatic. When in doubt, neutrals with a pop of colour is my forever formula.

9. A film or show with impeccable style?

Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette is absolutely dreamy. I also adored the ‘90s nostalgia threaded through Netflix’s Barracuda Queens. And of course, Gossip Girl for its unapologetic preppy 2000s, SATC for its iconic looks, and the Chanel moments in The Devil Wears Prada.

10. The best fashion advice you have ever received?

Fashion is for everyone.

11. Your dream front-row seat at any fashion show in history?

John Galliano, 1994.

14. What are your essentials to carry in your bag?

Earphones, house keys, my cardholder, sunglasses and a selection of lip products.

15. Your perfect St Andrews ball outfit?

A light pink A-line gown with a matching clutch and pumps, I like a good princess moment when the dress code is black tie.

16. If you could switch lives with anyone in the fashion industry, who would it be?

Anna Wintour.

17. A fashion risk you have taken that has paid off?

Glitter before noon. It feels mischievous in the most delightful way. For someone who enjoys a classic leaning style, it is as rebellious as I get.

18. A fun fact about yourself?

I really enjoy certain items of footwear and I am dangerously picky about flats and sneakers. Once I fall in love with a model, I buy it in different variations…

19. A style habit you have picked up since moving here?

Dressing for the rain and learning to make functional choices feel chic.

20. Which song(s) do you listen to whilst running down Market Street for a lecture?

Realistically, anything by Taylor Swift. But if I’m in the mood for a full Devil Wears Prada moment, “Vogue” by Madonna. Lately, I’ve been enjoying nods to the ‘80s and the ‘90s.

21. Where can we find you in St Andrews?

Browsing the fashion shelves at Toppings, taste-testing new cookies with a matcha at Spoiled, or if I am in a celebratory mood, sipping a post-lecture Aperol at The 18.

Lily

Iced almond vanilla matcha from Spoiled.

2. How would you define your style in three words?

Classic, intricate, boho.

Micro trends / reliance on TikTok / influencers / whatever to tell you what to wear — case in point being TikToks that say things like “guys what are WE wearing for winter. Like personal style is soo chic!

4. Your favourite book?

Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney.

5. A colour you always return to?

For lifestyle (room decor etc) — pink. For clothes, navy / dark blue or white! Also, always, gold.

6. A designer you think is underrated?

Rebecca Minkoff (I know she’s a Scientologist I’m sorry but she has great taste).

7. Your favourite outfit in your rotation?

My straight leg dark wash jeans, black ballet flats, Zadig et Voltaire rock&roll turtleneck (with hair tucked or up in a ponytail/bun). Plus my brown-black funnel neck coat because of Scottish weather.

8. You are given a basic white jumper, how would you style it?

Like the above! Super simple, jeans and ballet flats for an easy cosy look, or over a mini dress/skirt with knee high boots!

9. A film or show with impeccable style?

Valley of the Dolls (1967)

10. The best fashion advice you have ever received?

Dress in a way your younger self would see you and think: “oh my god she’s so cool I want to be her when I grow up”.

11. Your dream front-row seat at any fashion show in history?

Christian Dior FW 2007 at Versailles.

12. A fabric or texture you obsess over?

Cashmere or silk!

Shoes.

14. What are your essentials to carry in your bag?

My water bottle, corona branded lime-shaped bottle opener/key chain, a scarf (wool or silk depending on the weather) and a pair of drug store sunglasses. (See my blog post In the Bag with CC!)

15. Your perfect St Andrews ball outfit?

The 2008 Rebecca Taylor navy studded lace and chiffon floor length dress I thrifted this summer with silver heels, a substantial bracelet stack, and dangly earrings (preferably in the shape of wings).

16. If you could switch lives with anyone in the fashion industry (editor, designer, model), who would it be?

Patricia Field (costume designer who worked on SATC, Devil Wears Prada and more!!)

17. A fashion risk you have taken that has paid off?

I’m not a huge risk-taker when it comes to fashion, although I did dye my hair with Kool Aid when I was like 8 and I loved it sooo much. I want to hopefully this summer dye a few strands of my hair pink! (I’ve always wanted pink hair).

18. A fun fact about yourself?

I like to bake in my free time! My favorite things I have made have been: Saint-Honore, earl grey macarons, and of course my chocolate chip cookie recipe I developed myself!

19. A style habit you have picked up since moving here.

Ballet flats and boots over sneakers (although you can still find me sporting a pair a couple days a week).

20. Which song(s) do you listen to whilst running down market street for a lecture?

Scar Tissue - The Red Hot Chili Peppers or White Teeth Teens - Lorde.

21. Where can we find you in St Andrews?

Sitting outside at Sallies or St Mary’s quad (pretending to do work but most likely doing The NY Times crossword) or in Spoiled grabbing a matcha!

Anya

1. Your favourite coffee shop order?

If I’m at Spoiled, an iced vanilla matcha with coconut milk. Anywhere else, a chai latte.

2. How would you define your style in three words?

Classic, laid-back, developing.

3. Your recent least favourite “trend”?

Slapping a rosette on anything and everything.

4. Your favourite book?

Thérèse Desqueyroux by François Mauriac.

5. A colour you always return to?

Green or Pink.

6. A designer you think is underrated?

Balmain - they seem pretty overlooked when people talk about iconic brands, but they have so many incredible pieces.

7. Your favourite outfit in your rotation?

My favourite pair of dark wash low rise jeans with this really cute bell sleeve black lace beaded top that was a find off TheRealReal. It’s covered in tiny charms too, definitely over the top but I love it. Normally, I pair it with a tall black leather heeled boot and a small black bag.

8. You are given a basic white jumper, how would you style it?

With a pair of light wash low rise jeans, a fun chunky belt (either bright cobalt blue or a wide tan suede) a lace collared shirt peeking out, and either my Isabel Marant Bobby boots or my Frye riding boots for a more laid back look.

9. A film or show with impeccable style

Saltburn and Sex & The City (I’m a Carrie apologist through and through).

10. The best fashion advice you have ever received?

Probably to stop buying clothes just so you have something easy to throw on. While I’m all for some staple pieces, I dislike the idea of a capsule wardrobe. Fashion is meant to be fun! Get a few eye-catching pieces and go from there. While it might take a bit more time to get dressed in the morning, your outfits will be much more interesting and a better representation of you.

11. Your dream front-row seat at any fashion show in history?

Absolutely John Galliano for Dior Fall 2005 Haute Couture.

12. A fabric or texture you obsess over?

I’m a huge fan of ponyhair and hide on belts, bags, etc.

13. Shoes or bags?

Absolutely shoes. I currently have 28 pairs with me in St Andrews, it might be time for a closet cleanout!

14. What are your essentials to carry in your bag?

Hand sanitizer, a lip stain, gum, hair ties, a mini perfume oil and body glitter, just in case.

15. Your perfect St Andrews ball outfit ?

A closed-toe heel that’s low enough to dance in but high enough to make dancing more fun. Then, any dress with a lot of fabric, movement, and visual interest. Recently, I wore one with cascading pink ruffles down the skirt and into a small train and I had the time of my life in it.

16. If you could switch lives with anyone in the fashion industry (editor, designer, model), who would it be?

I’d absolutely love to be an editor or designer. Since I was young, I’ve made little fashion magazines and blogs reporting on currents trends, so it would be amazing to see how a hobby of mine is an actual career in such a huge industry.

17. A fashion risk you have taken that has paid off?

I’m not sure if I’d consider this a risk necessarily, but as a taller girl I’ve never shyed away from a high heel. I don’t care if I’m the tallest person in the room - if I want to wear it, I will!

18. A fun fact about yourself?

After receiving a sewing machine for my birthday, I used to sew the vast majority of my own clothes! While I’ve stopped in recent years, I still love to hand sew & embroider, I find it super relaxing.

19. A style habit you have picked up since moving here.

It’s very rare for me to wear trainers out since coming to St Andrews. Now, I reach for boots or a pair of flats before anything else.

20. Which song(s) do you listen to whilst running down market street for a lecture?

Some favourites include: Gorgeous by Kanye, Beast of Burden by The Rolling Stones or Girls Chase Boys by Ingrid Michealson. A bit all over the place, but they all put me in a good mood.

21. Where can we find you in St Andrews?

When it’s sunny, either the balcony at Dune with a glass of wine or in St Mary’s quad. Otherwise, probably off for a walk near Castle Sands or Lade Braes.
