Turning Your Closet Into The Runway

‘Corporate Core’

There’s nothing fashion loves doing more than adding ‘core’ to a trending style of clothing. The ‘corporate core’ and ‘office siren’ looks that were all over social media made it to the runway this year. Calvin Klein really channelled the workwear chic vibe, with models such as Kendall Jenner and Selena Forrest strutting down the runway with knee-length pencil skirts, cashmere maxi dresses, and sleek pantsuits. Chunky loafers and cool frames were also the headliners.

Corporate core is definitely a style that can easily be incorporated into daily outfits – no need for a full pantsuit or skirt set. Layering a button-down shirt with a vest top over is one way to join the trend and playing with colors, shapes, and designs can add more personality and uniqueness. This asymmetrical vest top plays with the stripes of the button-down, with the navy blue of the vest and stripes connecting the two to each other. The chunky loafers also channel the corp core trend, with the jeans adding a more casual feel to the outfit.

These two outfits both embody the corporate core trend in two different ways – showing the versatility of not only this trend, but most trends at these fashion weeks. The black flats, in combination with the long silk skirt, turtleneck, and long coat, portray a sleek, monochromatic approach. This outfit is perfect for a day on the town or being the coolest girl in the office.

Matching the navy striped trousers with the navy sweater allows the lilac Asics sneakers to add a pop of color and casualness to the outfit. As pictured in the library, this outfit is fit for a day of working, with some coffee breaks in between to take a break and catch up with friends.

Funky Tights

Whenever an outfit feels too dull or plain, the easiest way to spruce it up is with a pair of funky tights. Whether it be the color, pattern, or a combination of both, cool tights go a long way. Fashion icons and brands alike, such as Alexa Chung and Prada’s runway, were huge fans of the cool tights trend. Whether going with Chung’s white lace tights, or the ever-popular red rights as seen on many, the ways to style a fun pair of tights are endless.

This outfit took a classic pair of navy blue tights and styled it perfectly with a matching navy blue skirt, allowing the pink sweater, brown boots, and patterned scarf to complement each other and have a moment of standing out. Not only are cool tights a perfect statement or supporting piece in an outfit, but they keep you warm during the chillier months. Two wins in one.

Fur Collars

Fur coats and collars are nothing new to the fashion world – they are always popular, in one way or another, in the trending fashion. This year, faux fur was popular amongst designers who still wanted to achieve the fur coat look. Brands such as Fendi and Simone Rocha took to the runways to show off their 2025 season fur coats – whether it be a fully adorned coat or just the collar. Similar to the funky tights trend, fur coats are a perfect way to add some ‘oomph’ to an outfit. Skirts, dresses, jeans, you name it, a fur coat can be the perfect addition.

It is commonly known that black goes well with everything – so imagine how perfect of an addition a black fur coat would be to your closet. The fur collar on this coat is a detail that adds a lot to not only the coat but also the outfit. The red details of the necklace and nails really contrast against the black coat, which allows them to stand out and grab your attention. Fur coats are the definition of function and fashion – keeping you warm while looking cool.

As the ‘Big Four’ fashion weeks come to a close, seeing the trends on the streets is just beginning. With the St. Andrews fashion shows all happening around the same time, seeing models and audiences incorporating the trends of 2025 is bound to happen, putting the St. Andrews touch on the hot trends of this season. Each year fashion weeks bring fresh interpretations while still embracing classic trends that will never go out of style. From Corp Core to funky tights to fur collars, there is a trend for everyone to join in on. Turning your closet into the runway is easy when incorporating elements from all these trends, as they can be found at your favorite clothing stores and charity shops. Every week should be fashion week.
